The workplace is evolving thanks to mobility. More specifically, business applications, collaboration tools, mobile devices and smart mobile platforms are the driving force behind this evolution. Business applications especially will likely see huge growth—growth upward of $6.3 trillion by 2021.
Managing Director of Wavelink Ilan Rubin feels that this growth is due to the changing nature of work itself: employees are working differently, they’re collaborating with colleagues differently and communication with colleagues and supervisors is changing.
What’s more, this change is across the board whether the business is large or small.
Top Industries Affected by Enterprise Mobility Technology
The four biggest industries where mobility is evolving business communications are:
Hospitals & Healthcare
Nurse calls and patient alarms come through on smartphones using specially-designed applications. Additionally, applications are possible for clinical workflows.
Hotels & Hospitality
Hotels can handle customer service issues quickly and easily as staff can communicate customer needs instantly through a smartphone app.
Manufacturing
Sensor-driven machinery can share information with staff, who can then optimize productivity from a smartphone.
Retail
Customer experience can improve using a smartphone app that updates available stock
Where Are Mobile Devices Going Next?
There still needed changes for devices to make them professional mobile devices rather than a traditional BYOD situation. For manufacturing jobs, for example, devices need to be tough enough to survive drops and other potential hazards. For hotels and retail, the device should be recognizable as a tool for work and not mistaken as a worker using their personal phone during working hours. In a hospital setting, devices need to be able to handle sterilization processes.
