This spring there were talks that Microsoft would purchase Salesforce; however, the negotiations have recently fallen through.
Microsoft put in an offer of $55 billion to purchase Salesforce; however, Salesforce countered with a demand for at least $70 billion. According to sources, neither side was willing to move far enough away from their asking prices to reach an agreement.
Last month, after Bloomberg released the news that Salesforce was being approached with a buying offer, their stock prices soared. Microsoft insiders have told media sources that the company has not put any new negotiations in, suggesting the period of negotiations has ended.
Down, But Not Out
However, already there appears to be renewed interest in a Salesforce acquisition. According to The Street, Salesforce shares jumped up 5% after speculation that a big tech company is interesting in buying it. Which one though? Speculators think it could be IBM this time, or perhaps Microsoft reconsidering.
