Mobile apps are all the rage. Chances are, if you need one for a specific purpose, “there’s an app for that.”
In fact, American developers have even developed an app that allows user to verbally input their calorie intake at each meal by describing the meal’s contents. The hope is that this application will help to make it easier for obese patients track their nutrition to help them lose weight.
This app is thanks to researchers at MIT. Previous apps like this were more difficult to use, which would lead people to neglect using them. The app works by using a speech-controlled nutrition logging system that was recently presented at the International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing in Shanghai.
To use the app, users can tell the system what they ate and the application will automatically retrieve data on the nutrition from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s database. This information is then displayed as images in dropdown menus for the users to select and fill in their information, such as serving size of food.
