Hybrid cloud environments are becoming increasingly popular solution for storing data. But is a hybrid environment a good fit for your business?
Here are two factors to consider before making the leap.
Factor #1: Hybrid clouds revive old data centers
If your business has put off updating your technologies (including storage space), fear not. You can jump your business ahead quickly merely by upgrading to a hybrid cloud environment. Better yet, it’s not as expensive as you’d think (at least compared to a multi-year overhaul).
First, you’ll need to ensure you have IT professionals on staff (or hire them for the projects) that are cloud-savvy. You’ll also need to make investments on appliances, networking equipment, software, hardware, services, and servers to handle your new environment.
Factor #2: Embracing unpredictability
One of the easiest ways to know whether its time to upgrade to a hybrid cloud system is when your current system starts to experience demand spikes that push the limits of your current storage capacity.
While it may seem counterintuitive, one of the biggest issues with a hybrid cloud environment is the fact that it’s elastic. In other words, a hybrid cloud has the ability to push out its storage load (or cloudburst) whenever the need arises. It is this flexibility that makes the hybrid cloud trend toward unpredictability.
This ability to be unpredictable also means that the days of having storage space and servers laying idle until they’re needed could go obsolete.
