While cloud computing is far from being a new concept, experts expect a new evolution of cloud solutions in the coming year. Below are couple of these trends that cloud computing could go through in 2017 and how companies may deal with the changes:
Server-less Computing
Over the last year or so, Amazon Web Services (AWS) became popular with DevOps developers because of its Lambda functions, especially given the fact that Lambda allows for running code without having to provide a server. This has led to systems that function without servers, thus eliminating the need to set up and/or manage a server.
Lower Costs
Lambda has the added benefit of allowing for companies to pay only for the cloud resources that they’ll need to run their code. This eliminates required 24/7 virtual servers for service hosting. Good thing too, because running code does not require a working server 24 hours a day. In addition to going server-less, commodity software is becoming cheaper and platform-as-a-service is becoming more available.
These cloud computing trends should carry through 2017 as host providers are likely to compete with each other to secure customers.
