Arizona’s state legislature has submitted a law for Governor Doug Ducey’s approval. The legislature, entitled SB1434, would require all state agencies to move IT operations, technologies, and resources into the cloud. The bill would also require that the measure be refreshed after two years and revaluated to see if the resources not in the cloud should stay out.
Some may question why Arizona’s legislature is so quick to move everything into the cloud rather than piece by piece.
Morgan Reed, an Arizona CIO, feels that the state wants to be like businesses in the private sector:
Governor Ducey has a vision for Arizona to move at the speed of business. So the question should be, why not the cloud? The private sector has been leveraging cloud technologies to securely deliver some of the most trusted services we all use on a daily basis.
Furthermore, Reed feels the government will benefit from some of the abilities private sector businesses have, like scalability, agility, and reliability.
